makin' shakin' ice cream

What you'll need:

* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1/2 cup milk or half & half
* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
* 6 tablespoons rock salt [course salt is fine
* 1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
* 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
* Ice cubes

How to make it:

1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!

The kids had a great time at the cottage making this treat.

Step 5. is really important!  Salty tasting ice cream is really no good!

quilt & a good book

Hop Skip & Jump quilt by Denyse Schmidt.

My idea of a lazy weekend. Find a shady spot with just a touch of sun peeking through. A great quilt and a good book. Went to the local library to pick up the enormously and really greedy stack of books I ordered on line. If only I have time to read just half.

What is on your Summer Reading list?

Smile! I was on Google Camera

NOT the exact car that drove by the shop last week

"Hey!  What's that?"

Spotted the Google Street View snapping pictures of our Historic Downtown.  Good thing I prettied up the shop front with a new window display. The hanging baskets were showing their best face.  Come take a 360 degree stroll through MY neighborhood.

baby quilt

It was about time I made a 'gender friendly' quilt.  With the majority of expecting momma's now knowing what the little 'pea' is going to be.  I have found the fabric company's are really catering to 'It's a Boy' or 'It's a Girl'...well not everyone finds out.
I personally waited three times to hear (I like surprises)  This simple quilt was made using a variety of  fat quarters.  Do not be afraid of the ruffle!!  Two words..Dental Floss!!

hint: waxed dental floss does not break in mid gather!  just stitch a tiny zigzag stitch over the floss without catching

it's a baby....

Took the whole family to the Vancouver Aquarium today.  What a day to go without the camera.  Aurora the beluga whale was about to give birth.  We witnessed this amazing event live.  Emma was even interviewed by the local news on what she thought of the birth and a name for the new baby.  'Juniver' because she was born in the month of June.  Sweet! out of the mouths of babes.

I can't believe how fast the gift shop was with display of  'It's a Girl'  baby beluga stuffies. Of course Emma got one.

It’s a new bouncing baby beluga girl!

20-year-old Aurora gave birth to her latest calf at 3:39pm on Sunday, June 7, 2009
